12. The Isis Tavern.

Named after Oxford's private (Latin) name for the Thames, this riverside pub is popular with students, boaters and towpath walkers; a four-square white house built as a farm c1800, it became an inn 40 years later. The Rose family were tenants from 1927 until 1999. There is no road to the Isis; supplies come by water or by 4-wheel-drive across the fields. |
The Isis Hotel by Taunt & Co, the caption reads "Good accommodation for Boating Parties and Bean Feasts. Luncheons, Teas, &c., always ready. James Barton, Proprietor. |
