| At the corner of the footpath adn the main road is a stone set against the wall, with the text: Here Ifly Hy Way 1635. This marks the place where the main road entered Iffley parish; highway maintenance was a parish responsibility before the emergence of turnpike trusts in the eighteenth century. |
